Using a Feeling Words List to explore Emotions

In therapy, often a feeling word list can help identify which emotional states are highly active. Communicating feelings while they are at a low intensity can help resolve issues before they become very intense. The list we've created can help you identify these emotions as they are listed in order of increasing intensity.

Some ways to use the feeling word list are:

  • to widen your emotional vocabulary
  • express yourself more fully
  • to journal your experiences
  • to create an emotional log by writing down how you feel at every half hour
  • to provide empathy by helping others label their emotions
